Optimal industrial reactor design: development of a multiobjective optimization method based on a posteriori performance parameters calculated from CFD flow solutions

•An open-source software to couple CFD and multiobjective optimization is presented.•The influence of bioreactor geometry on shear stress and RTD is analyzed by CFD.•Parallel evolutionary algorithm for solving CFD optimization problems is implemented.•A pilot-scale continuous bioreactor is optimally designed.•The software showed robustness allowing its future application on different problems.
