Thermal conductivity and thermal stability enhancement of ethylene propylene diene methylene with carbon nanotube

Abstract
In this article, the ethylene propylene diene methylene rubber composites filled with pretreated multi-walled carbon nanotubes were prepared by a double-roll milling dispersion method. The thermal and mechanical properties of the composites were measured and evaluated. The morphology of pretreated multi-walled carbon nanotubes was studied via transmission electron microscopy and the dispersity of multi-walled carbon nanotubes in ethylene propylene diene methylene was determined using scanning electron microscope. By means of thermogravimetric analysis, the thermal stability and oxidation resistance of ethylene propylene diene methylene filled with different content of multi-walled carbon nanotubes were examined. The results showed that the pretreated multi-walled carbon nanotubes can improve the thermal conductivity and increase the thermal decomposition temperature. However, different filling content of multi-walled carbon nanotubes showed different effects on the mechanical performance of ethylene propylene diene methylene.
