Abstract
This study was carried out on height, root collar diameter and height/root ratio in two-year-old bare root seedlings of fifteen open pollinated stone pine (Pinus pinea L.) families originated from Aydin-Kocarli. Broad sense heritability was estimated for the characters; and also families were compared for the characters. Distribution of the seedlings to quality classes of Turkish Standard Institute and its performance were examined by Discriminant analysis. While there were large differences among families for studied characters, averages of seedling height, root collar diameter and height/root ratio were 22.9 cm, 4.4 mm, and 5.4 respectively. Broad sense heritability was 0.80 for height, 0.32 for diameter and 0.19 for the ratio. Most of the seedlings (more than 90%) had quality seedlings for plantation according to the classification. Results of the Discriminant analysis showed that the classification was suitable for the seedlings.
