Description of the /sup 1/H(d, p)X reaction at relativistic deuteron energies in the model of hard collisions

Within the framework of the relativistic model of hard nucleon-nucleon collisions we analyze the momentum spectrum of the protons emitted at the angle 0.139 rad as a result of fragmentation of deuterons with the momentum 9 GeV/c in hydrogen nuclei. We take into account the contributions from both the elastic and inelastic interactions of the nucleons of the deuteron with the target protons. We show that on the whole the relativistic model of hard collisions reproduces well the main features of the proton spectrum. Better agreement with experiment is achieved with a structure function of the deuteron whose arguments describing the longitudinal and transverse motions of the nucleons are independent variables.
