A CASE REPORT OF THE SEPTAL FORMATION OF THE COMMON BILE DUCT

The septal formation of the common bile duct has been reported in only 17 cases in Japan. We experienced such a case the time course of theseptum was followed by using ultrasonography (US). A 48-year-old man had have a right hypochondralgia four years before entry, and thereafter jaundice sometimes occurred. The patient was diagnosed as benign stenosis of the bile duct by ultrasonography and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC), and was followed. On April 1991, he had a right hypochondrial pain again. US revealed that the stenosis became stronger than before. Operation was carred out Intraoperative biliary fiberscope showed that the common bile duct was almost obstructed by septum. There was no stone and tumor. With intraoperative frozen section diagnosis, a malignant potential was ruled out. Bile duct resection and hepaticojejunostomy were performed. Pathologically collagen fiber markedly proliferated in submucosa of the bile duct, and the patient was diagnosed as septal formation of the common bile duct.
