Progressione del plasmocitoma solitario dell’osso a livello mandibolare in mieloma multiplo

OBJECTIVES. The aim of this article was to point out the importance of performing frequent monitoring of patients with plasmacytoma of the jaws: although rare, this pathology may develop a progression from solitary plasmacytoma to multiple myeloma.MATERIALS AND METHODS. The initial clinical picture was highlighted through a clinical-anamnestic evaluation and the investigations undertaken, the results obtained and the therapies used were described. It was shown how a tight monitoring allows to detect the onset new bone lesions.RESULTS. On the basis of the clinical investigations carried out, an initial diagnosis of plasmacytoma of the jaws was given. The subsequent pathology evolution confirmed the progression to multiple myeloma.CONCLUSIONS. The progression of plasmacytoma to multiple myeloma is reported in the literature in 45% of cases. The case presented highlights the importance of closely monitoring patients with plasmacytoma of the jaws.
