Abstract
Nuclear magnetic resonance 23 Na studies were carried out for sodium octanoate in aqueous solution and in silica aqueous dispersion. The concentration and temperature dependencies of spin–lattice and spin–spin relaxation times of sodium were investigated for ternary systems and binary solutions. The results indicate that the specific chemical association between counterion and ion rather than electrostatic interaction takes place in all systems. The existence of premicellar aggregates in octanoate solution was found.
