MiR-124 promotes bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells differentiation into neurogenic cells for accelerating recovery in the spinal cord injury.

•The miR-124 induced formation of neurogenic cells from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells via down-regulation of PTBP1 and activation of PTBP2.•The neurogenic cells derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells can take part in recovery of spinal cord injury.
