The Presence and Distribution of Mast Cells in the Human Gastrointestinal Tract at Autopsy

Human post-mortem gastrointestinal tissue can be used for the study of the mast cell. There is no appreciable decrease in the number of mast cells between the fourth through the ninth hours after death. A distinct distributional pattern of mast cells occurs throughout the different levels and layers of the gastrointestinal tract.
