Spect In The Early Diagnosis Of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease

Changes in brain imaging of regional cerebral blood flow with SPECT using TC-99m HMPAO were observed in a 68-year-old woman with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). Focal hypoperfusion in the left fronto-parieto-temporal regions, corresponding to the periodic synchronous discharges localized in the left frontal region on EEG, were detected on SPECT imaging before CT and MRI showed any abnormalities. These findings suggest that brain SPECT may be more useful in the early detection of site-specific abnormalities in CJD.
