Inhibitory effects of TFM on L-thyroxine-induced heart hypertrophy in rats

AIM: Effects of TFM on heart hypertrophy induced by L-thyroxine in rats were studied. METHODS:: L-thyroxine (1 mg·kg-1·d-1 ip) once daily for 8 d induced heart hypertrophy in rats. RESULTS: TFM (5 mg·kg-1, 10 mg·kg- 1) could obviously decrease heart weight, shorten myofibril diameter of heart, decrease ventricular protein and RNA concentration, lower ventricular Na+, K+-ATPase and Ca2+-ATPase activity. CONCLUSION: TFN have inhibitory effects on L-thyroxine-induced heart hypertrophy in rats.
