Inhibitory effects of ipalbidine on respiratory burst of leukocyte and scavenging oxygen free radicals

AIM: The effects of ipalbidine (Ipa) on respiratory burst of leukocyte and oxygen free radical were observed. METHODS: Chemiluminescence method was used to measure (1) active oxygen species generation in respiratory burst of leukocyte from human blood stimulated with zymosan; (2) superoxide anion (O2/-·) induced by DMSO-luminol system; (3) hydroxyl radicals (·OH) generated by Vit C-Cu2+-zymosan; (4) the release of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Effect of Ipa on these active oxygen species were observed. RESULTS: Ipa had inhibitory effects on respiratory burst of leukocyte, O2/- · production and ·OH release in dose-dependent manner. But no effect of Ipa on H2O2 production was measured. CONCLUSION: Ipa inhibited respiratory burst of leukocyte and scavenged oxygen free radicals.
