Meleumycin is a 16-member macrolide antibiotic. A multicenter double blind randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted for evaluate the efficacy and safety of meleumycin compared with midecamycin in the treatment of total 101 cases of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections and skin and soft tissue infections. The studied compounds were marked on their packages with 'A' or 'B', 51 cases were treated with A and 50 cases with B. The daily dosage was 200~400 mg q8h orally for 7~14 days. Results showed the overall clinical efficacy rate of two groups were 80.4% and 82.0% respectively. The bacterial clearance rate both were 83.3%. The incidence of adverse drug reactions of the two groups were 7.84% and 6.00% respectively, all the reactions were mild. There were no statistical difference of clinical efficacy, bacterial clearance and adverse drug reactions between two groups.
