Analysis of influenza surveillance in Jinan from 2005 to 2008.

Objective To understand the prevalent characteristics of influenza and the changes of epidemic strain in Jinan City, and provide scientific basis for the disease control and prevention.MethodsDescriptive analysis was applied to analyze the flu-like cases, pathogen surveillance results and outbreak information of the influenza sentinel hospitals in Jinan City.ResultsFrom 2005 to 2008, the percentages of flu-like cases of three hospitals' treatments were 3.81%, 3.79% and 2.93%, respectively, basically decreased. The percentages of flu-like cases of hospital treatment were significant different in all age groups, and the highest percentage was 5.90% in the age group 0 to 4. The dominant prevalent strains respectively were the subtype H1, H3 and B and H3 from 2005 to 2008. There were nine outbreaks of flu-like cases, and the subtype B virus was detected in five of them.ConclusionThe epidemic of influenza is relatively stable in Jinan City from 2005 to 2008, but there are outbreaks in some areas. The epidemic strain is constantly changing.
