摘要
The American Diabetes Association 2006-2007 Nutrition Recommendations ( 1 American Diabetes Association position statement: Nutrition recommendations and recommendations for diabetes. Diabetes Care. 2007; 30: S48-S65 Google Scholar ) provide an update of the 2002 statement ( 2 American Diabetes Association position statement: Evidence-based nutrition principles and recommendations for the treatment and prevention of diabetes and related complications. J Am Diet Assoc. 2002; 102: 109-118 Google Scholar ) and accompanying technical review ( 3 Franz M.J. Bantle J.P. Beebe C.A. Brunzell J.D. Chiasson J.L. Garg A. Holzmeister L.A. Hoogwerf B. Mayer-Davis E. Mooradian A.D. Purnell J.Q. Wheeler M. Evidence-based nutrition principles and recommendations for the treatment and prevention of diabetes and related complications. Diabetes Care. 2002; 25 ([technical review]): 148-198 Google Scholar ), and of the modifications made in 2004 ( 4 American Diabetes Association position statement: Nutrition principles and recommendations in diabetes. Diabetes Care. 2004; 27: S36-S46 Google Scholar ). These nutrition recommendations are available at http://www.diabetes.org/for-health-professionals-and-scientists/cpr.jsp. The overall goal of the recommendations is to make people who have diabetes or are at risk for developing diabetes, as well as health care providers, aware of beneficial nutrition interventions that may reduce the incidence of diabetes as well as diabetes-related morbidity and mortality. This commentary discusses the prevention continuum organizing framework of the recommendations, review procedures used by the American Diabetes Association, implementation tailoring, and the emphasis on obesity. The commentary also highlights features of the recommendations to delay/prevent diabetes (primary prevention), to prevent complications (secondary prevention), and to manage complications (tertiary prevention). In addition, we address the growing public health burden of diabetes, research issues, and putting evidence into practice. J.
