Exploring The Neural Processing Of Visceral Sensations: The Influence Of Sensory, Emotional And Cognitive Factors

s(BA24), prefrontal (BA9,10,46), and superior temporal gyrus (BA22) were the regions positively correlated to the placebo effect measured by VAS or McGill pain rating index.Conclusions (1) Significant reduction in pain and brain activation within pain related regions occurred during the placebo analgesia in visceral pain.(2) The correlation between the activation differences in limbic/paralimbic region and placebo intensity may suggest a cognitive coping mechanism in modulating placebo analgesia.
