Synthesis and Properties of a New Range of Mixed-Donor Alkynyl Ferrocenophanes

The acid-catalyzed reaction of [1,1'-Fc{Co-2(CO)(6)(mu:eta(2)-CdropCCMe(2)OH)}(2)] (Fc = Fe(eta(5) -C5H4)(2)) with a variety of dinucleophiles led to the formation in excellent yields of a novel range of ferrocenophanes containing a variety of donor atoms. The crystal structures of four of these new compounds are reported as well as the results of electrochemical studies of the new complexes.
