Tacrolimus Reduces the Risk for Bronchiolitis Obliterans Syndrome after Lung Transplantation by 50% in Comparison to Cyclosporine in a Prospective Randomized International Trial of 249 Pts

Objective: We performed a prospective randomized study comparing the efficacy and safety of two immunosuppressive regimens (Tac, MMF, Steroids vs. CsA, MMF, Steroids) after Lung Transplantation. Primary objective was the incidence of bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS). Secondary objectives were incidence of acute rejection and infection, survival and adverse events. 249 patients with a complete 3 year follow-up were included in this analysis.
