Depletion of European gas fields in the coming decades will increase import dependency on notably Russia and Algeria. Russia holds one-third of global gas reserves (IEA, 2002a). European policy-makers usually state that Russia will easily fill this 'supply gap'. Within this perspective, how important are Russian gas market reforms for the security of gas supply in Europe?
