Resilience in a multi-layer network

The integration of different technologies such as ATM, SDH and WDM in future multi-layer transport networks requires a better coordination between the individual network layers. Especially in the area of network survivability, it is felt that much can be gained by a better coordination and integration of the healing actions taken by the different layers in the event of failures. We present a framework for survivability strategies in multi-layer networks, identifying different options that can be taken to recover in a network with multiple recovery schemes active in different layers.
