Dr. Wang currently is the Director of the Neurocognitive and Behavioral Development Laboratory (NBDL) and Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. Dr. Wang’s research interest is focused on identifying neurobiological and neurophysiological mechanisms underlying sensorimotor issues in children with neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, Phelan McDermid Syndrome, and Fragile X) and adult individuals who are at risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., older adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and individuals with FMR1 gene premutation). Dr. Wang’s research employs system neuroscience approaches, including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), structural neuroimaging, kinetic, and kinematic assessments to identify biobehavioral markers for neurodevelopmental disabilities to facilitate diagnosis, predict disease risk and monitor disease progression. Dr. Wang’s work has been supported by NIA, NICHD, NINDS, and Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. Dr. Wang has been published in multiple high-impact and scientifically rigorous peer-reviewed journals specializing in developmental science (e.g., Journal of Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders), neuroscience (e.g., Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews, Frontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, and Experimental Brain Research), neurobiology (e.g., Frontiers in Neuroscience Systems Biology and International Journal of Molecular Sciences) and neurophysiology (e.g., Journal of Neurophysiology).
