Prof. Yaw Oheneba-Sakyi (Ph.D.) is a Professor of Sociology and a Fulbright New Century Scholar of Higher Education. Between 2008 and 2016, he was the Director of the Institute of Continuing and Distance Education, University of Ghana and with the onset of the Collegiate System became the Founding Dean of the School of Continuing and Distance Education. Prior to coming to the University of Ghana he worked for two decades at State University of New York and California State University both in the United States of America. He holds a Ph.D. from Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, USA; an M.A. from the State University of New York at Albany, USA; and a B.A. (Honors) from the University of Ghana. Over the course of his professional life, he has facilitated several educational and training programmes on a variety of topics including online teaching and learning strategies; technology-based learning tools, online facilitation, curriculum development and adult learning principles. Prof. Oheneba-Sakyi was largely instrumental in the University of Ghana’s adoption of the Sakai Learning Management System (LMS) and has since been the Training Convener for faculty and he has served as Chairman of the University of Ghana’s E-Learning Quality Control Committee that is overseeing the University’s transition from face-to-face teaching and learning mode to online and blended delivery modes. Currently, he serves as the Head of the University’s Teaching Excellence Unit, Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation (CTLI), a member of the Online Teaching and Learning Policy Committee, and a member of the Pedagogical Leadership in Africa (PedaL) Implementation Team.
