Yasu started his professional carrier in the oil & gas exploration industry (16 years) as an exploration geologist then moved to Kyoto Univ (Japan), where he conducted research on geologic modelling, CCS, oil and gas-related research, and scientific drilling. After spent 11.5 years in Kyoto, he moved to JAMSTEC, where he was leading the science to explore subsurface by combining various datasets, such as exploration geophysics, borehole and core data. From 2021, he is a professor at Kyushu Univ.
