Dr. Tina Shih's research focuses on cancer health economics research, which applies theories and methods of health economics to study economic aspects of cancer throughout the entire care continuum. Four main areas of her research within this emerging field are: (a) examining technology diffusion in cancer -- facilitators, barriers, health disparity implications and associated costs; (b) evaluating cost-effectiveness of cancer screening strategies or behavioral interventions and effectiveness of cancer policies; (c) applying econometric and statistical methods to analyze medical cost data and explore cost drivers; and (d) assessing and measuring cancer-related financial hardship longitudinally to inform the development of mitigation strategies through interventions or policy actions.
