Biography
Dr. Wui-Chiang Lee is the Director of Department of Medial Affairs and Planning, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, one of the world-known medical centers in Taiwan. Not only a highly acclaimed gastroenterologist and quality expert in Taiwan, Dr. Lee always set on quality and patient safety on a global scale. Dr. Lee joined Johns Hopkins University and earned a PhD (2005) and MHS (2002) from the Bloomberg School of Public Health. He also joined the healthcare executive certificate program at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2008.
After coming back to Taiwan, he assumed top-ranked positions, such as CEO of the Joint Commission Taiwan (2011~2013), and Director-General of the Ministry of Health and Welfare (2013~2014). Soon thereafter, Dr. Lee was appointed as President of the Asian Society for Quality in Health Care in 2013 and successfully led its four glory years. He has also served as an institutional board member and Chairman of Education Committee of International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) since 2013.
Dr. Lee joined the anti-SARS battle when he was a PhD candidate at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health for drafting a temperature surveillance program (https://magazine.jhsph.edu/2003/fall/SARS/taiwan_sidebar.html?fbclid=IwAR3FyTSsqU8-8hGXGD6qRS66U7WVgIB_OBLlYzBPwSH9-BvIn2wEKepw7bY). He came back to Taipei Veterans General Hospital and devoted to the anti-SARS activities in 2003. From the SARS outbreak experiences, he accounted for strategic planning and executive actions against COVID-19 virus from the first documented infected case in Taiwan on January 21st, 2020. Dr. Lee also participated to the nationwide expert team for the pandemic. He published three scientific manuscripts to sharing the successful experiences of Taiwan to the other countries.
