Career Trajectory
Bio
Since 01 Oct. 2002 I was employed as an assistant at the University of Lodz, Faculty of Physics and Chemistry, Department of Nuclear Physics and Radiation Safety. At that time, I started PhD studies in Physics at the Faculty of Physics and Chemistry. During my studies I was dealing mainly with the medical physics and more specifically with issues related to radiological protection of the staff working in exposure to ionising radiation. Exploring issues of personal dosimetry during cooperation with the Department of Radiological Protection, Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine in Lodz, I got involved in 2004 in studies conducted by the Department of Surgical Oncology, Medical University of Lodz, concerned with radiation exposure of the medical personnel during the procedure of sentinel node biopsy in patients with breast cancer and melanoma. At that time, I had studied in depth the problem of assessment of radiation exposure using high-sensitivity thermoluminescent detectors made from appropriate materials and methods of measuring doses of ionising radiation on the hands of personnel involved in the procedure of location and biopsy of sentinel node biopsy, including issues ranging from calibration of the thermoluminescent detectors to the specific characteristics of the detectors and calibration problems. The experience gained during that time enabled me to attempt to assess the occupational exposure to ionising radiation of nuclear medicine workers, which later became the basis for my PhD thesis. The publication entitled “Hand exposure to ionising radiation of nuclear medicine workers” is the result of these studies. In April 2007, I obtained permission for radiological protection inspector, type R. 01. Oct. 2007 I started working as a adjunct at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics at the University of Lodz in the Department of Nuclear Physics and Radiation Safety. At that time, my interests still focused on problem of exposure of staff employed in nuclear medicine facilities. This time, however, I studied exposure to ionising radiation from other isotopes, than 99mTc, such as 131I and 153Sm. In 2011, the research item ‘The study of personnel and environmental exposure in Nuclear Medicine Laboratories’, which was the basis for assessment of exposure to personnel and the environment from radioactive 153Sm when administered to patients for the treatment of bone metastases, received funding from departmental fund in a competition for young researchers. This theme is also pursued in collaboration with the Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine in Lodz. In 2012 again I received funding from departmental fund in a competition for young researchers to perform research on: ‘Assessment of exposure of personnel during the PET-CT diagnostic procedure’. The results was published in Journal of Radiological Protection in 2015. In the end of 2012 I started investigation about patients exposure undergoing dental radiography. In 2013 I have started a preliminary study in one of the centers of radiotherapy related with the distribution of neutron fields around of charged particle accelerators used in medicine. In the same year, I dealt with the issue of exposure of the medical personnel during the diagnostic procedures performed by using 18F-labelled deoxyglucose (18F-FDG). Now, I continue this subject additionally enhanced by the exposure of the radiopharmaceuticals’ production centres staff who produced the radiopharmaceuticals at the based on isotopes received by using the cyclotron technique in particular the F-18. Also I am working on issues related to dose reessessment by using PTTL (PhotoTransferredThermoluminescence) method in thermoluminescent detectors.
