Areas of Involvement Environmental Biology and Ecology, Systematics and Evolution. Current Research interests How does environmental harshness, natural disturbances, and human influences impact northern aquatic ecosystems? For > 16 years, my graduate students and I have been investigating a diverse range of questions concerning the ecology of fishes, and the food webs of which they are a part, in boreal and sub-arctic lakes and rivers in northern Alberta and adjacent portions of the NWT. Additional work has been conducted in lakes and ponds in Finland and Sweden, and in the Arctic Ocean. The scale of studies has ranged from a focus on individual feeding or reproductive behavior, to landscape-level influences on the structure of aquatic communities, and has included both "pure" and applied research.
