Wlodek Kofman received the Ph.D. degree in signal processing and the Doctorat D’Etat degree in geophysics from the University of Grenoble, Grenoble, France, in 1972 and 1979, respectively. He is currently a Research Director Emeritus at IPAG, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France, and a Professor at the Space Research Center at PAS, Warsaw, Poland. He was the Director of the Laboratoire de Planetologie de Grenoble from 1999 to 2007. He was a Principal Investigator of the CONSERT experiment on ESA cornerstone mission ROSETTA from 1994 to 2018. He is a Co-Investigator of sounder radar instruments on ESA, NASA, and JAXA space missions. He has published more than 170 publications and supervised 17 Ph.D. theses. His main research activity is concerned with issues of signal processing, radar technique, plasma physics, study of Earth high atmosphere and ionosphere, and planetary surface and subsurface. Dr. Kofman was a member of the ESA Space Science Advisory Committee from 2010 to 2012. He is an Honorary Fellow of the U.K. Royal Astronomical Society and a member of the Air and Space Academy (AAE). He was the Vice Chairperson and the Chairperson of the Council of International Incoherent Scatter radars Facility EISCAT from 1994 to 1997 and 1997 to 1999, respectively. He was the Editor-in-Chief of Annales Geophysicae edited by The European Geosciences Union from 2004 to 2010. From 2013 to 2020, he was a Distinguished Visiting Scientist at JPL/CALTECH. Asteroid 13368 has been named “Wlodekofman” to honor him as a Principal Investigator on the Rosetta mission.
