Bio
Liverpool John Moores University Lecturer delivering Policing Studies. I want to ensure that all of my lectures are well thought out, relatable and engaging with a student centred learning approach. I am always eager to learn off others in order to improve my own performance so that the students get the best possible version of myself. Like to offer pastoral care to my students if they have any areas of their life they want to discuss confidentially and want my students to know that I am approachable.
Since studying at LJMU, I have been on many different journeys in order to develop into the best possible teacher. I have taught ESOL in HM Prisons within the North West and North Wales. Created Schemes of Work and worked with Qualification boards in order fit the correct qualification to the students needs. Have worked towards Ofsted and Agored standards and have routinely been officially observed throughout the roles I have held.
During my time at HM Prisons my main focus was with Foreign National Prisoners in order to give them the tools to adapt to prison life. Helping them pastorally and giving them tips in order to understand the English language around the prison.
When working at Novus, I collaborated with other tutors throughout the UK within the organisation in a group called ENiGMA. We had to promote the importance of lessons involving English, Maths & IT within lessons so that offenders developed their skills throughout their time in custody in order to gain employment when released back into society. During this role I visited a number of HM Prisons of different categories, training staff on how best to include these skills within their curriculum.
At The City of Liverpool College, I worked with Refugee and Asylum Seeker student ranging from Adult to 16-18 students. Within this role, I taught these students English through the ESOL National Curriculum. My lessons were very engaging for the students and I would teach across the different levels but mainly would focus on Beginners as this was my passion. Within my classes, I would have students from North East Africa, the Middle East, Asia and South America. These students were all fantastic and were very keen to learn in order to gain the correct language skills for employment in the future.
