Dr. Busse has been a director on the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and served on the Advisory Council of the National Institutes of Health/National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NIH/NHLBI). He was a member of the Expert Panel on the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma; was a member of the Board of External Experts for the NIH/NHLBI; and served as a board member and president of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI). He has been an associate editor of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
Dr. Busse’s work has been recognized with many awards throughout his career. He has received the Folkert Belzer Life Achievement Award, the American Thoracic Society Award for Scientific Accomplishments, and the Citation Award for Achievement from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He has won the AAAAI Robert A. Cooke Lectureship Award, the American Thoracic Society Foundation Breathing for Life Award and the UW Health Patient Experience Award.
