个人简介
Christian's research is dedicated to the computational investigation of molecular functional materials and complex biological systems like proteins in solution. He uses a variety of state of the art quantum chemical methods and multiscale modeling to understand the electronic and spectroscopic properties of the mentioned materials. These properties include, among others, UV/Vis absorption and light-induced dynamics as well as determination of NMR and EPR parameters.
Christian received his B. Sc. degree in physics with honors and top of the class from the University of Paderborn in December 2010. Afterwards, he continued his studies in physics. In February 2011 he was awarded a fast-track fellowship within the GRK 1464 "Micro- and Nanostructures in Optoelectronics & Photonics" funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft to skip the master's degree and start with his doctoral studies after a preparatory year.
From February 2012 to June 2015, he was a regular PhD student in the group of Prof. Stefan Schumacher at the Physics Department of Paderborn University within the GRK 1464. During his doctoral studies, he investigated the photophysics of conjugated polymers, graphene quantum dots, and perylene derivatives as OLED emitters and the photochemistry of photochromic diarylethenes using quantum chemical methods. From February 2013 to January 2015, Christian received a full PhD scholarship from the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung to fund his thesis work. In June 2015, he defended his PhD thesis "Photophysics and Photochemistry of Conjugated Systems and Photochromic Molecules" with distinction ("summa cum laude") and received the dissertation award 2016 from Paderborn University.
From July 2015 to July 2016, he was working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Paderborn. From August 2016 to March 2019 he was a postdoc in Igor Schapiro's research group at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. There he first studied the photophysics of nucleobases by employing multi-reference methods. Later on, he received a DFG fellwoship to establish the research on phytochrome photoreceptors in his host group by using quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM).
After a short return to Paderborn funded by the DFG, he started as postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Jörg Matysik at Leipzig University further investigating photoreceptor proteins and functional materials. In October 2022, he joined the computational biology group of Prof. Nadine Schwierz at the Institute of Physics, Augsburg University to pursue his habilitation.
