长期从事碳基材料、稀磁半导体材料、纳米结构及其组装材料的计算模拟及理论研究工作。发表SCI论文240余篇,其中多篇论文被Web of Science列为top 1% 高被引用论文,被选入美国科学院院刊 PNAS,德国应用化学 Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Chem. Phys. Lett., Nanoscale, J.Chem.Phys. ChemPhysChem 等国际知名学术期刊封面论文;多项研究工作受到学术界的高度评价,被诸多权威性学术期刊和学术机构(如PNAS, Physics Today, Materials Today, Chemistry Views, Chemistry World, JACS 等)专题报道和亮点报道, 被Science News, Science Daily, Phys.Org, New Materials News,Daily Nano News,Scientists Say和《科技日报》等科学媒体新闻报道。模拟合成的五边形石墨烯入选“2015年中国重大科学进展(10项)”。入选2020全球前2%顶尖科学家“生涯影响力”榜单;自2014年,每年连续入选爱思唯尔“中国高被引学者”(物理与天文类)榜单;多次组织国际学术会议和大型国际会议分会;在美国高压学会、美国物理学会 (APS)、材料学会(MRS)和化学学会(ACS)年会等重要国际学术会议以及国内外学术机构做大会报告或邀请报告50余次。主持科技部国家重大研发计划(政府间专项)、国家自然科学基金面上项目、教育部博导基金等多项科研项目。
