Walter Heindel is Professor of Radiology and Chairman of the Department of Radiology at the University Hospital Muenster. In 2005 he was appointed Head of the Reference Center for Digital Mammography Muenster. In this function he is responsible for the quality assurance of the mammography screening program in 23 Sreeening Units in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as for the training of MDs and radiographers and for scientific evaluation of the program. As a representative of the German Society of Radiology Professor Heindel is member of the scientific advisory board of the German Society of Senology. His current research areas are the early detection of disease by imaging, especially screening, molecular imaging and innovative imaging techniques including breast MRI and ultrasound.
