Rui Vitorino is graduated in food biochemistry and got his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Aveiro (UA, Portugal). Following post-doctoral work, he held a position at the UA in 2008 as Auxiliary Researcher. From September 2015 to December 2016 held a position at UA as Invited Assitant Professor (100%). Since March 2016 has a position as Invited Assistant Professor (20%) at Faculty of Medicine - University of Porto. Since January 2017 is Principal Investigator at UA. Research by Vitorino and coworkers is centered on the improvement, development and application of proteomics technologies to biomedicine with major focus in salivary and urinary proteomics: (i) basic salivary research aiming the identification and characterization of the salivary and urinary components; (ii) impact of pathophysiological conditions on salivary and urinary proteome for the identification of biomarkers and/or therapeutic targets.
