Prof. V K Joshi Ph.D., FBRSI, was Retd. Professor and Head, Department of Postharvest Technology, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry Nauni, Solan (HP) 173230, India, and former adviser of HPMC , Shimla(HP). Got various training viz. Food Processing & Nutrition ‘MAU, Parabhani, Sensory Analysis’ from CFTRI, Mysore, Postharvest Technology of fruit and vegetables from PAU, Ludhiana organized by USAID and UAS, California, Davis (USA), Computer Applications from University Computer Centre, UHF, Nauni Networking and Internet University Computer Centre, Nauni. Possesses varied professional experience of research, teaching, and extension , including seven years in Quality Control in HP state department of Horticulture, Shimla. Specific areas of work include fermentation technology, waste utilization, biocolour, quality control and sensory evaluation of food. His major contribution is in wine fermentation technology and is a wine consultant. Have research, teaching and extension experience of more than 32 years including seven years in Quality Control. Guided MSc: 10, Ph.D :5 (1 Working) and have authored/ edited eight books: (Fruit wines; Biotechnology :Food Fermentation (2 vol); Postharvest Technology of Fruits and Vegetables (2 vol); Sensory Science : Principles and Applications in Food Evaluation; Advances in Biotechnology (JSIR sp. issue), Handbook of Enology: Principles, Practices, Recent Innovations, Food Biotechnology:Fundamental and Application (in Press), Production of wines from non-grape fruit, Natural Product Radiance. Sp.Issue. NISCAIR, New Delhi, Food Processing Waste Management Technology, Food Processing and Preservation. Besides research papers:120,book chapters/review/technical articles/popular articles:57, paper presented in seminars/conferences: 40. Has handled research projects of ICAR, NHB, DBT, GOI, MFP. Remained member of Board of Studies, HPU, Shimla, College of Horticulture, UHF, Nauni; Core committee of SLITE, Longowal (Pb)., Board of Studies on Food and Nutrition Punjabi University Patiala, Life member Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (Mysore),Trustee Biotechnological Research Society of India, Trivandrum. Recipient of N.N. Mohan Memorial Award, (1982), Kejriwal Award (1995), N.A. Pandit Award (1996), NN Mohan Memorial Award (1998) ,Dr JS Pruthi award by AIFPA, New Delhi (2009), , Himachal Shree Award by Himotkrash, Society, H.P. (2003). Is an Editor of Indian food Packer a journal of the industry.Is a referee of several prestigious journals including, Indian Food Packer, J. Applied Microbiology, Letters in Applied Microbiology, Bioresource Technology, Food Technology and Biotechnology, Indian J. Biotechnology, J.Sci. Industry.l Res.etc. Helped set up/ renovated the winery/Fruit Processing Unit etc licensed commercialization of fruits and vegetable products.
