Victor Alves is Assistant Professor of the Department of Informatics, School of Engineering, University of Minho. He got his PhD in Computer Science in 2002.
He teaches and taught several curricular units in the topics of Programing Paradigms , Medical Informatics, Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge Engineering, Intelligent Systems, Medical Imaging Informatics, Informatic Engineering Projects in different and related fields of Computer Engineering.
His main expertise lies in the Medical Imaging Informatics field, mainly in modeling of the imaging modalities and their interpretation by synergistic human-machine methods for clinical benefits and applications not only in the computer-aided diagnosis/detection research context but in the broader context of ambient intelligence.
He has always prioritized work in scientific R&D groups geared towards application in industrial domains and medical services. He has participated in several of publicly funded projects through FCT, the European Community or through the provision of services to the Community. He is one of the authors publicly available applications such as MVFG a Multi-format Video Frame Grabber (An ImageJ Plugin); MIVbox a device for acquisition, Processing and Diffusion of Endoscopy Procedures Results; MIVprocessing/MIVarchive/MIVstream/MIVstation Software applications for processing, diffusion, archiving and streaming of endoscopy videos; BrainCAT a tool for automated and combined functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Diffusion Tensor Imaging brain connectivity analysis.
He was the IT responsible of the MyEndoscopy module of project DoIT financed by the “Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER) através do Programa Operacional Fatores de Competitividade (POFC)”.
He is former Associate Director of the CCTC-Center for Computer Science and Technology (2013-2015). He supervised 2 PhDs and 45 MSc students. He supervises now 4 PhD, 17 MSc and 1 post-Doc students.
He has 63 indexed (ISI, Scopus, DBLP, ACM). publications in books, book chapters, journals and proceedings of international and national conferences, with more than 900 citations from authors from all over the world.
