V. Alcolea-Rodriguez

Victor Alcolea-Rodriguez obtained a degree in Chemistry at the University of the Balearic Islands. During his undergraduate studies he had his first research experiences: Victor collaborated in the environmental chemistry laboratory in water, air and soil analysis. Later, he made two collaborations in the Cell Therapy and Tissue Engineering Research Group (TERCIT), where he did research on new implantable medical devices, and he was able to enter the field of biomedicine and biomaterials. Once he finished his Chemistry degree, Victor obtained a CRUE-CEPYME grant from the Santander bank to continue his research on improving the biocompatibility of titanium materials (3 months). Subsequently, he completed the master's degree in Biomedicine at the University of Barcelona, where he did research under the supervision of Professor Jaume Vilarrasa on new bioconjugation methods for obtaining ADCs (antibody-drug conjugates) in the field of medicinal chemistry. Víctor is currently working on his doctoral thesis at the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR). His work, supervised by Prof. Dr. Miguel Angel Bañares and Dr. Raquel Portela, is based on the search for physicochemical descriptors capable of predicting the toxicity of nanomaterials, as well as various studies in the field of chemistry related to Raman spectroscopy. In addition, Víctor combines his research work with teaching assistant in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Complutense University of Madrid, providing support in the subject of Analytical Chemistry II (pharmacy degree). Finally, Víctor is a teacher at the Municipal School of Palma (Mallorca), where he teaches courses related to chemical risk intervention to fire brigade personnel. As non-scientific activities, Víctor has been a basketball coach since 2011 and is currently at Movistar Estudiantes.
