He directed 45 master's theses and 36 doctoral theses in the areas of Physics, Dentistry and Medicine. Received several prizes and honors. He works in the area of ??Atomic Physics and Applications of Optics in Health Sciences. He works with cold atoms, Bose-Einstein Condensates and photodynamic actions in cancer and microbiological control. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences of the Vatican, and the National Academy of Sciences (USA). He coordinates a Research Center, in which basic and applied sciences coexist in harmony. It carries out several activities of Technological Innovation and diffusion of sciences.
