Stefan Van Aelst received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in mathematics from the University of Antwerp, Antwerpen, Belgium, in 1997, and the Ph.D. degree (also in mathematics) from the University of Antwerp in 2000. He has worked as an Assistant and Associate Professor in statistics with Ghent University, Gent, Belgium. Since 2013, he has been an Associate Professor in statistics with the Department of Mathematics, University of Leuven, Leuven, Belgium, and a part-time Associate Professor with Ghent University. His research is mainly focused on robust statistics, covering estimation, inference, bootstrap methods, model selection, the analysis of fuzzy data, and high-dimensional data analysis.
