个人简介
Prof. Dr. Vera Meynen is an associate professor since 2011 at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. She is part of the Research group “Laboratory of Adsorption and Catalysis”, the centre of Excellence CASCH (catalysts for sustainable organic chemistry) and the spokesperson of the industrial research (IOF) consortium InSusChem (Consortium for Integrated Sustainable Chemistry Antwerp). In April 2020 she became vice-chair Department of Chemistry at interm and starting May 2022 she is chair department of Chemistry at UAntwerpen. After graduating as a bachelor in Chemistry at the University of Hasselt (Belgium), she obtained her master at the University of Antwerp. In 2006, she obtained her PhD at the same University, entitled “synthesis of a new generation of hierarchical zeolites” under the supervision of the late Prof. Vansant.
During her postdoc, she started working on the development of surface modified ceramic membranes at VITO (Flemish Institute of Technological Research) with applications in solvent filtration and water purification. She was a guest researcher in several laboratories among which the University of Montpellier 2 (AIME group, Prof. J. Zajac) and the Institute Europeén de Membranes (IEM, CNRS) in Montpellier in France and in 2016 at the university of Stuttgart in Germany (Prof. E. Klemm and D. Ziegenbalg). Since 2006, she is guest researcher at VITO (Unit SCT - Separation and Conversion Technology and SUMAT – Sustainable materials) in Belgium.
Her main research interests include the synthesis and modification of inorganic materials with tuneable properties. She focuses on synthesis-properties-performance correlation in inorganic and hybrid organic-inorganic materials, to improve their performance in a variety of applications such as separation, sorption, catalysis and sensors. One of her interests is materials development for plasma catalysis in which materials play an intriguing role. She has an interest in both fundamental and applied, valorisation driven research. In 2021, the spin-off A-membranes was started-up based on surface modification technology on ceramic membranes that she developed together with VITO.
She collaborates in large (inter)national networks with partners in various fields of application and research. She is author of more than 120 publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals of which many with co-authors from different countries, 2 book chapters and (co-)inventor of 6 patents.
Next to her academic research, she has a strong interest in safety and is the coordinator of the Post Academic Course “Adviseur Gevaarlijke Stoffen” (= Advisor Hazardous Materials) at the University of Antwerp in collaboration with Campus VESTA, chemical industry and the Federal government Knowledge Centre Civil Protection. She supports several organizations that bring science and scientific expertise to society among others the board and Kekulé section of KVCV (Royal Chemistry Society Flanders), editorial board of C2W/Mens and Molecule and BIG vzw.
