My current research interest is mathematical modeling of the development and progression of cancer, in order to predict clinical and economic outcomes of prevention, diagnostics, and treatment. Eg, I built a micro-simulation model to evaluate screening and vaccination in The Netherlands. The results have been used by the Dutch Health Council to inform policy on cervical cancer prevention. Currently, I supervise several PhD students developing mathematical models of colorectal cancer, lung cancer and melanoma. I am (co)author of multiple publications in peer reviewed international journals and teach in the area of statistical methodology, mathematical modeling and cost-effectiveness.
