个人简介
Those who worked with Victor quickly learned that he was a talented, committed, and compassionate physician and surgeon who made them accept nothing but the best from themselves. He was widely recognized for his surgical skills, but also for his stimulating teaching. He took great satisfaction from seeking new knowledge that could transform clinical practice, an effort distinguished by his long commitment to increasing understanding of the uses of vascularized and non-vascularized allografts for reconstruction of the skeletal tissues. His interest in immunology also led him to investigate the mechanisms responsible for immune synovitis. Throughout his career he also conducted clinical research and made significant contributions to the practice of joint arthroplasty, including writing frequently cited papers that helped improve treatment of patients who have advanced arthritis and complications of joint replacements.
Victor had a strong and abiding interest in articular cartilage and in developing methods of biologic reconstruction of joints. An impressive body of basic and translational research performed by Victor and his colleagues helped form the foundation for the now rapidly advancing methods of using progenitor cells to regenerate bone, ligament, and articular cartilage—methods that have the potential to open a new era in orthopaedic practice. His peers recognized his pioneering research with three Kappa Delta awards, the Shands Award, the Otto Aufranc Award, and the ORS/OREF Distinguished Investigator Award, as well as multiple others.
