Dr. Volkan İnce is an Associate Professor of General Surgery at Liver Transplantation Institute of İnönü University, Malatya, Türkiye. Having received his Bachelor’s degree from Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 2005, Dr. İnce finished his general surgery residency training at Malatya İnönü University in 2012. He has been working at İnönü University Liver Transplant Institute, Department of General Surgery since 2013. He is part of a team that has performed the first 4-way swap liver transplantation in the world. They performed over 250 liver transplants per year, mostly from living donors, and a total of over 3600 liver transplants to date. They introduced “Malatya criteria” and “expanded Malatya criteria” in liver transplantation for HCC to the world medical literature. He is a board-certified surgeon in general surgery and transplant surgery. He has a particular clinical and scientific experience and interest within the fields of living donation, liver transplantation, swap liver transplantation, primary liver cancers, hepatocellular carcinoma, secondary liver tumors, acute liver failure, artificial liver support devices and intensive care. He is a member of the editorial board of the World Journal of Transplantation, HPB Radar and Journal of Inonu Liver Transplantation Institute. Since January 2022, he has been serving as the Deputy Director of the Liver Transplantation Institute of İnönü University. He is a member of national and international organ transplant associations. He is married and has three daughters. He enjoys playing basketball and spending time with his children.
