Vladimir G. Zorin was born in Siberia, Russia, in 1952. He received the degree from Nizhny Novgorod University, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, in 1974 and the Ph.D. degree in plasma physics (devoted to high-pressure microwave discharges) and the D.Sc. degree in plasma physics from the Russian Academy of Sciences, Nizhny Novgorod, in 1985 and 2007, respectively.
He is currently a leading scientist with the Plasma Physics Division, Institute of Applied Physics, Russian Academy of Sciences, and with DOCENT, State University, Nizhny Novgorod. He is the author or coauthor of about 100 papers in the plasma physics and ion sources area. His main publications include Dynamics of a HF Discharge in an Oversized Waveguide (1981), Soft X-Ray Emission from Millimeter-Wave Electron-Cyclotron Resonance Discharge (1996), and High Current ECR Source of Multicharged Ion Beams (2007). His current research interest is connected with the study of plasma creation in magnetic traps by powerful millimeter-wave radiation, the formation of high current ion beams, and the search for new applications of such plasma.
