Urvashi Rau

Urvashi Rau received the bachelor’s degree in computer science and physics from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India, in 2002, the master’s degree in computer science from the University of California at San Diego, La Jolla, CA, USA, in 2004, and the Ph.D. in physics from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, Socorro, NM, USA, in 2010. She works with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), Socorro, on wideband image reconstruction algorithms for the VLA radio interferometer. She is currently an Associate Scientist with National Radio Astronomy Observatory. In the past few years, her contributions have included algorithms and software for wideband and wide-field imaging, automatic identification and masking of data corrupted by radio frequency interference, and studies of imaging accuracies achievable in practice for very weak source populations that are the targets of interest in a large number of ongoing imaging experiments. Her current research interests include data analysis and image reconstruction algorithms for current and next generation radio interferometers and their deployment for practical use within scalable high performance computing platforms.
