Nuria Torras

N. Torras graduated as Industrial Engineer for Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in 2009 and obtained the MSc in Nanotechnology in 2010 at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where also received her PhD degree in Microelectronics in 2014 for her studies on soft-polymer opto-mechanical actuators. She did first postdoctoral research at micro and nanotools group at Instituto de Microelectrónica de Barcelona, IMB-CNM (CSIC) in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Spain), based on the design, fabrication and characterization of smart microsystems for cell biology applications. Since February 2017 she is as postdoc at Biomimetic Systems for Cell Engineering group leaded by Dr. Elena Martínez, at Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), in Barcelona, working on the development of 3D scaffolds based on photolithographic and novel 3D printing techniques, for the in-vitro modelling of the Intestinal Epithelium, within the frame of an ERC project. Núria has more than 20 journal articles, a book chapter and a patent, and has participated in several national, international and european projects, working on multidisciplinar environments, which brought her the opportunity to train in the field of MEMS and silicon-based fabrication technologies, as well as to enlarge knowledge in biology, and potentiate communication and organization skills too. She is passionate by cell biology and tissue organization mechanics, and how the micro and nanotechnologies can help us to understand their growing and developmental mechanisms; an area where she wants to focus on in the near future.
