His laboratory focuses on the modelling and discovery of virus-induced cell circuits underlying chronic inflammation and cancer. The understanding of virus-host interactions and disease biology has allowed his laboratory to uncover novel strategies for prevention and treatment of chronic liver disease and cancer.
He has received several awards including the Hans Popper Young Investigator Award, the Chair and Laboratory of Excellence Awards of the French National Research Agency, the International Prix Galien and the Mémain-Pelletier Award of the French Academy of Science. He has published more than 350 scientific articles including Nature, Nature Biotechnology, N. Engl. J. Med., Cell and Nature Medicine as a senior author (h-Index 75). He is an inventor on 16 patents and patent applications and scientific founder of a biotech company. Research in his laboratory is supported by the European Commission including four ERC Grants, the US National Institutes of Health as well as industry.
