Kaiser Permanente has allowed me to focus on how to best take care of my patients, without the barriers associate with fee-for-service medical practice. All of our incentives are aligned toward delivering the best possible care. I decide with my patients what the correct course of action is to diagnose or treat their condition, and then implement our shared decision. I have continued to stay involved with research on colorectal cancer screening, and I lead the colorectal cancer screening program for Kaiser Permanente, Northern California.
My Philosophy
In general, I believe in a shared approach to health care decision-making. I will give you as much information as I can, and make suggestions about what I think will be the right course of action, but the ultimate decision will be yours. Unless you agree with my recommendations, you are unlikely to follow my advice. Together, we will develop an approach to your health care that is scientifically and medically sound, but that feels comfortable for you.

I have stayed involved with research projects on colorectal cancer screening using the experience we have gained as a world leader on implementing screening for our large health care system.
