Posttranscriptional mechanisms are responsible for various biological events and their dysregulation is linked to a variety of disorders. mRNA degradation mediated by mRNA binding proteins or microRNAs is essential to reduce the amounts of unnecessary mRNAs. We have found that gene-engineered mice lacking an mRNA decay machinery displayed abnormal tissue formation, inflammation or metabolic disorders. We are studying about the molecular mechanisms by which those abnormalities are induced and are also trying to identify effective treatments to improve them.
