Tirdad Sowlati

Tirdad Sowlati (S’94–M’96) received the B.S. and M.S. degrees (Hons.) in electrical engineering from Tehran Polytechnic University, Tehran, Iran, in 1987 and 1989, respectively, the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada, in 1997, and the MBA degree from the University of California, Irvine, CA, USA, in 2008. Since 1991, he has been focusing on high-speed analog and RF integrated circuit design for cellular, wireless LAN, and millimeter-wave transceivers. He was a Design Engineer at Gennum Corporation focusing on product design for serial digital video applications. He was a Senior Member of Technical Staff at Philips Research designing Si PAs. He was the Senior Director of engineering at Skyworks where he focused on GSM, EDGE, WCDMA transceiver product development for seven years. He was the Director of engineering at Qualcomm from 2009 to 2011, developing multi-Gbps wired peripherals for Snapdragon SOCs. At Broadcom, Irvine, CA, USA, he was responsible for millimeter-wave and 60-GHz phased array radio development from 2011 to 2016 and also for radio development in WLAN products from 2013 to 2015. He is currently a Senior Director of engineering at Broadcom, developing radios for the next generation of WLAN mobile product line. He has co-authored 25 IEEE conference and journal papers and holds 67 U.S. patents. Dr. Sowlati was a co-recipient of the JSSC Best Paper Award in 2014.
